The shooter and the shield

Aim of practice: becoming present, concentrating on the partner, movement warm-up Number of participants: 3+ (the more participants the more intriguing it becomes)
Time allocation: 3 - 5 minutes

The participants stand in space. Each for himself silently chooses a different participant, that is the Shield and another who will be the Shooter. The participant keeps his/her choice secret, but as soon as the signal sounds, the original participant needs to move inside the space so that he/she has the Shield between him/herself and the Shooter. They can’t be contacted in any way during the process or beforehand.

When the end is signalled everyone stops and when another signal sounds, those that are not covered fall immediately to the ground.

When there’s only a small number of participants, it is possible to modify the game, so that the Shooter is aiming from a fixed point - the window, the wardrobe, from behind the heating, from a drawer and only the shield is moving..

Note: This task is meant to get the participants into a movement which hypothetically does not have to end, because the positions keep changing. In improvisation workshops this is used to show the very essence of improvisation. The situation keeps changing, nothing remains permanent, new impulses that I need to process and be psychophysically ready for keep coming.
