Show your environment

Aim of practice: building context for the character
Number of participants: 2+/ exercise in couples
Time allocations (min): 15+

In the first phase the participants are lying on the ground and imagine an environment their character is occupying, for example an office, a cloakroom or the kitchen.

In the follow-up each of them without the use of words describes the environment to the others. Then the participant enters the described environment and performs any possible everyday action within. When all spaces are introduced, the participants begin to create interactive scenes. One begins a nonverbal action within his/her own surrounding, the others intuitively join in and together they improvise in the given environment.

Note: the environment doesn’t have to be the same as in the final performance but an environment the character naturally exists in.
