Interrogating the character

This exercise is handy if you’re working with originally created characters you need to develop or solidify.

Aim of practice: developing the character
Number of participants: 4+
Time allocation (min): 15+

First the participants sit in a circle, one being in the middle. The middle one represents the fictional character. First he tells a short introduction and presents others with basic info about him/herself (if it hasn’t happened earlier). Then it’s time for others’ questions regarding the life of the character. The questions range from widely general to very detailed: e. g. How was your childhood? Why do you do what you do?

The goal is to learn more and come across factual and character inaccuracies that need to be solved. If the exercise is taking place between the actors, the performative aspect (expression) can be included in the representation.
